Participants will gain hands-on, practical experience in diagnosing and managing canine cruciate disease, learning both the standard extracapsular suture technique and the OrthoSta Ligament Repair System. Through guided instruction and supervised practice, you will develop confidence in identifying key intra-articular structures and performing meniscectomies with precision. The workshop also provides the knowledge and skills to differentiate cruciate injuries from other causes of pelvic limb lameness, enabling more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning. By the end of the session, you will be equipped to apply these techniques confidently in clinical practice, improving outcomes for your patients.

Ben Mielke is an experienced boarded surgeon who has a strong interest in teaching the “tricks and tips” that he has learnt throughout his career. He graduated from the University of Melbourne, spent time in mixed practice in Gippsland, completed several internships in the UK and then a surgical residency at the Royal Veterinary College. He loves all aspects of surgery with a particular interest in the management of complex multi-disciplinary cases and in management of trauma. When not working you will find him in cold water of the Melbourne Bay or riding bikes with his children.
