Description
This two-day, practical workshop will improve your confidence and skill when performing abdominal ultrasonography. Aimed at novice to intermediate scanners wishing to improve their technique and maximise their machines potential.
Delegate numbers are strictly limited with a small number of attendees to maximise the learning experience. Practical sessions will be delivered in small groups of 3-4 attendees per station to ensure plenty of hands-on practice and individual attention from the tutors.
Key Skills:
- Learn how to perform a complete abdominal scan with supervised scanning with experienced sonographers
- Learn how to perform safe ultrasound guided aspirates and biopsies
- Understand the changes that occur in diseased patients and the common ultrasonographic appearances
- Learn how to maximise your machine settings to optimize your images and ability to scan your patients successfully
Speaker Biography
Dr Emily Short
BVSc (Dist) MANZCVS (SA Radiology) DipECVDI European Specialist in Veterinary Radiology®

Emily Short is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, having completed a small animal track radiology residency with NZRadVet. She is currently working as an on-site radiologist at Animal Referral Centre (ARC) in Auckland. Emily is passionate about imaging and a team approach to veterinary care. She enjoys teaching having spent multiple years working with vet students at Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (MUVTH), contributed to training rotating interns at MUVTH and ARC, and having participated as a wet lab demonstrator in multiple abdominal ultrasound and POCUS workshops for general practitioners.
Value to your practice
Abdominal ultrasonography is fast becoming an essential part of the minimum diagnostic work-up for many clinical cases. This course will give delegates the confidence to perform diagnostic abdominal ultrasound in practice on a wide variety of cases, allowing them to diagnose and treat these patients in-house.
